If you’ve ever wondered how we develop our machines to be so tailored to end users and the range of challenges they face in commercial kitchens, the answer is simple – Customer Back Innovation.  

A large part of our resource and time is dedicated to Research & Development – but how do we know we're doing it in the right place to benefit operators in the most effective and efficient ways? 

Successful R&D doesn’t always mean solutions have to be complex. Hobart is an expert when it comes to resource and energy-saving innovations

 

 

 

Our Customer Back Innovation programme – which has driven our R&D processes for the past two decades – is all about making kitchen life easier and more productive. Making the whole ‘package’ more efficient to help kitchens save on both labour and overall running costs while helping us to purpose build future-proof equipment for the unique challenges of kitchen life.

It's an exacting process that can usually take between 5-10 years from beginning to end – a long-term investment of time and resources to make sure we get it right.  Our dedicated teams work hand in hand with operators, via comprehensive face-to-face workshops, not just on the equipment itself but on the entire warewashing or cooking process and overall operation.  

That may include their workflow, in terms of how items are brought to their dishwasher and how they're taken away – these elements are then evaluated to produce a 360° package of solutions

We then review our findings and look at the parts in the process that we can affect – and where we can focus our efforts to produce the best results for the customer, always working within the parameters of cost versus benefit.

From simple yet smart ‘retrofit’ add-ons, to full-scale machine development with refinements that save time and energy while adding true value, or our patented launches, our refined Customer Back Innovation programme continues to produce innovative machines with solutions that make kitchen life simpler.

Two Level Washer

When space is limited and maximum output is required, this award-winning machine doubles the capacity and productivity of a conventional dishwasher within the same footprint as a single hood. The higher capacity functionality means fewer wash cycles which in turn reduces maintenance costs.

During lower periods of demand the bottom chamber can be disabled to minimise energy consumption and then re-enabled when there is a requirement for higher volumes - helping kitchens keep up with fluctuations in customer footfall.

With the option to use the lower chamber as a dedicated utensil washer or as a standard dishwasher, the Two Level Washer tackles the demands of both front and back-of-house teams by washing different types of ware simultaneously, saving time and keeping up with the kitchen flow.

FLOW Line Collection (Flight-type dishwashers)

Hobart’s new FLOW Line Collection continues to push the boundaries towards optimum efficiency, resulting in machines that reduce energy, save on labour, water, and detergent, whilst maximising wash capacity. Once categorised as flight-type machines, Hobart’s next generation FLOW Line Collection has undergone an innovative repositioning, twinned with ground-breaking, world-first patented technology to set the new standard for; Efficiency, Performance, Cost Savings.

When global research highlighted high staff turnover, lack of in-depth training and staff shortages as some of the biggest pain points for operators the expert teams at Hobart developed SmartVisionControl; intelligent, patent-pending AI-powered technology that automatically detects the incoming wash ware and then selects the best program to deliver clean dishes at the lowest running cost, irrespective of the operator. 

The new FLOW Line collection boasts a range of new features that have been designed with simplicity of operation in mind, as well as to help reduce operational cost.

Cutlery Premium Undercounter Dishwasher

The latest result of our dynamic design and manufacturing process is our next generation undercounter dishwasher with unique, new features developed as a direct consequence of our customer back innovation programme.

When extensive European research highlighted manual polishing of cutlery as one of the biggest pain points for hotel and restaurant kitchens, the expert teams at Hobart developed the world’s first undercounter dishwasher with a built-in cutlery premium feature to make manual polishing obsolete.  

This unique cutlery premium option provides the new standard for stain free, shiny cutlery without the need for manual polishing, resulting in up to 50% labour savings and improved hygiene during the drying process, giving front of house teams more time to focus on their customers.
